Back in the early 1980s the Pink Palace Museum in Memphis did an exhibit on the CW that included a surgeon’s tent, with a scene of surgeon preparing to do an amputation. It was all static mannequins, except for the patient on the table, which was fitted with a small motor that made his chest go up and down as if he were breathing. That was too much for some visitors, and they had to disconnect the motor.
They have the same gimmick in an exhibit at the John Brown Wax Museum in Harpers Ferry, and it scared the living daylights out of me when I was a kid. I went back there a few years ago, and it’s still a pretty creepy place.
