Farragut marker may get a new spot

We may be arriving at a satisfactory solution to the Case of the Disappearing Admiral Farragut Monument.  The folks in Knox County are working on an agreement that will hopefully make it possible for the marker to be set up somewhere near Farragut’s birthplace.

  1. This is good, although Ms. Fitzgerald’s bad actions in surreptitiously removing the marker and (it seems) transferring it to a private collector out-of-state remain condemnable.

Solutions of this sort often come up here in Texas, where historical markers are being placed. Maybe of them will read, “near this spot,” or have similar language because for a variety of reasons they can’t be placed exactly on the location being cited. It works.

Kudos to all involved (including Ms. Fitzgerald) for working constructively toward a solution.

I can understand her wish to keep trespassers off her property, but removing it without notifying the organization that owned it seems to me like possible grounds for some kind of legal action.
